Otago Region Guide

This is the most inland region of New Zealand; It has a series of river basins and deep river gorges and is in the centre of South island, it is also the hottest the driest in summer and the coldest in winter.

It has a permanent population of 16,000 people but with its diverse selection of things to do its becoming a leading tourism destination, old trails used by miners in the gold rush can be seen winding over the hills.

Cromwell with its apple and pear sign in the town is by the shores of Lake Dunstan a beautiful place for power boating, fishing and windsurfing.
